Mardi Gras Costume Accessories

I've been gathering images for possible Mardi Gras costumes. So many parades, so little time. Here are some of my favorite images...

All this would require is some lace, Sta-Flo and elastic.

Simple and beautiful. I'm thinking of adding lace or flowers.

Crystals from an old chandelier will do the trick.

This one might have to wait for a coming year...Anna Pavlova in costume for her Russian dance, 1910’s-20’s. Her headdress is an elaborate version of what is known as a kokoshnik.

Sequins, feathers and lace, oh my!

Peter Pan Collars and Pussy Bows, oh my!

An homage to two of my favorite vintage styles that are back, and happen to have great names.

Peter Pan Collar...

(The lovely Anna Karina in Alphaville circa 1965)

The Pussy Bow...

Love the tassels on this one.

Always a fan of the feminine military style.

Distressed Denim is Deadly for Workers

If you consider buying distressed denim products, think again...

Manual sandblasting of jeans requires just a hose, an air compressor and sand - workers literally blast the jeans with sand, to give them a worn look and to soften the denim.

Silicosis is caused when small particles of silica dust from the sand embed themselves within the lungs.

It causes shortness of breath, coughing, weakness and weight loss. It's incurable - and in its acute form, fatal.

"I believe that distressed denim will be seen as one of the great madnesses of this generation... a sign of fast fashion at its most ridiculous." -Orsola de Castro
